Miserable summer weather and signs the economic slump may be bottoming out have led Britons to start looking at overseas holidays again as they ditch cheap but wet “staycations.”

The federally mandated preflight safety announcement is about as well known as the pledge of allegiance to many travelers, and they immediately tune it out. So airlines are getting creative to grab passengers’ attention.

For much of the country, the last two months of summer mean a combination of soul-draining humidity, oppressive heat, and violent thunderstorms. In Los Angeles it means that we have the same weather as in March or December, albeit a little hotter during the daytime. To celebrate the absolute lack of change in our weather, various organizations around the city throw free concerts. Don’t be fooled though. Summer in Los Angeles isn’t all fun and games. The extra hours of sunshine mean extra guilt when Angelinos start blowing rails around 6:30 p.m.
